Brent Jensen , “Trios”
Origin 82453
“A saxophonist of impressive range, from mainstream to free.”
Doug Ramsey, JazzTimes

For his fourth recording on Origin, Brent Jensen takes a cue from his old mentor Lee Konitz and explores the intimate world of the trio. Here he combines with two rhythm sections of long-time collaborators: guitarist Jamie Findlay and bassist Zac Matthews of the Los Angeles-based Acoustic Jazz Quartet, and bassist Doug Miller and drummer John Bishop from Seattle's New Stories. From the intimate interplay of Beautiful Love to the raucous second-line groove of Bemsha Swing, Trios presents 7 reinterpreted standards by "a saxophonist of impressive range, from mainstream to free." (Doug Ramsey, JazzTimes).

All Music Guide (Adam Greenburg)
What can be done with a basic jazz trio? Brent Jensen appears to be setting out specifically to answer that question on his fourth album on Origin. With his alto sax he combines with portions of two existing Origin bands: guitarist Jamie Findlay and bassist Zac Matthews of the Acoustic Jazz Quartet on half of the tracks, and bassist Doug Miller and...
All About Jazz (Dan McClenaghan)
Alto saxophonist Brent Jensen reinterprets seven classic, time-tested standards on Trios; and if the word ėstandardsî makes you think ėmainstream,î don't be surprised if the sound here incorporates a free and elastic vibe. The Idaho-based reedmanóthe Director of Jazz Studies and Woodwinds at College of South Idaho in Twin Fallsóemploys two very...
Audiophile Audition (Jeff Krow)
Sweet & Sour - A Challenging Combination Brent Jensen's 2002 Origin release, "The Sound of a Dry Martini" was my introduction to Jensen. It was a tribute to the late Paul Desmond. It was highly enjoyable, often uncannily getting Desmond's dry, light, feathery tone down to a "T". Being unfamiliar with Jensen, I could not tell whether he was inten...
Jazz Scene (George Fendel)
Some of you may remember Brent Jensen from his earlier Origin recordings, particularly "The Sound Of A Dry Martini," where, if you closed your eyes, you'd think you were hearing Paul Desmond. Well, Jensen's admiration for Desmond is born anew on this fine outing with two different trios. The first one puts him in the company of Jamie Findlay, gui...
The Davis Enterprise (Ric Bang)
This album uses two unusual trio instrumentations. Three of the tracks feature alto sax, guitar and acoustic bass; the remaining cuts feature alto sax, acoustic bass and drums. Have a listen before you scoff ... they really work! Brent Jensen has played alto sax with some of the country's standout jazz groups, including those fronted b...
