Brent Jensen w/ Bill Anschell, Jeff Johnson, John Bishop, “One More Mile”
Origin 82493
“...a saxophonist of impressive range, from mainstream to free.”
JazzTimes

Idaho-based saxophonist Brent Jensen collaborates with long-time Seattle friends drummer John Bishop, bassist Jeff Johnson and pianist Bill Anschell on his 5th recording for Origin Records. From the freewheeling improvised "Punt" to Anschell's extremely melodic title cut, the group explores different avenues of modern jazz while always maintaining their dynamic and cohesive group aesthetic. Other selections include Anschell's creative reworkings of "Birk's Works" and "Sweet and Lovely," standards such as "Beatrice" and "Alone Together," and originals by Johnson and Anschell.

REVIEWS:

All Music Guide (Adam Greenberg)
For his fifth Origin release, Brent Jensen includes some of the main Origin stable stars as members of his quartet, which shows off some impressive sensitivity to the music, with both classic pieces and new compositions from the bandmembers. Jensen continues his trademark relaxed sound on the soprano sax, pulling just the right notes out where he w...
All About Jazz (John Barron)
Idaho-based saxophonist Brent Jensen seems to have found his musical soul-mates in the Pacific Northwest. For One More Mile, the College of Southern Idaho professor teams up with three of Seattle, Washington’s finest—pianist Bill Anschell, bassist Jeff Johnson and drummer John Bishop—for an intriguing straight-ahead set of standards and originals. ...
JazzTimes (Scott Albin)
For his fifth Origin CD, Idaho-based Brent Jensen parts ways with his alto sax to perform exclusively on the soprano, and proves to be just as proficient and engaging on the straight horn. With the inspired support of his fellow Origin recording artists from Seattle—the trio of pianist Bill Anschell, bassist Jeff Johnson and drummer (and label foun...
Cadence, April-June 2008 (Larry Hollis)
I certainly won’t attempt to speak for all Cadence readers but when I think of states with a heavy Jazz scene, Idaho is not one of them. Lionel Hampton and the late Gene Harris had healthy associations with the state but having visited, it would not be the place where I would seek out a jam session. "One More Mile" spotlights an Idaho native in sax...
