MUSIC REVIEW:
Jonas Tauber, “Prime Numbers”

Prime Numbers, a trio featuring bassist Jonas Tauber, has captured the perfect blend of live jazz, exploratory meanderings, and a cohesive structure that makes this CD a must for all lovers of free jazz. This is definitely not amateur hour, but an inspired document of brilliant music shining like a brooding star in space/time. This is one of those CDs that you listen to and smile because you cannot believe how right these guys got it. Mathematically speaking, the notion of prime numbers seems the perfect correlate to free jazz, for reasons that are not limited to the obvious randomness in the equation. Interestingly enough, a man named Louis de Branges recently wrote a paper claiming that he proves Riemann's 150 year-old hypothesis which explains the seemingly random patterns of prime numbers. So you see, free jazz is not all that free after all, and randomness, given rhythm and rhyme, can sound like pure manna. Highly recommended.
