REVIEWS:

Seattle Times (Andrew Gilbert)
By taking his time and letting his music develop at its own pace, Mark Taylor has become one of the essential players on the Seattle jazz scene. While steadily pursuing his own musical vision, the alto saxophonist has toiled fruitfully as a sideman, contributing to more than half a dozen excellent ensembles. From long-running institutions like t...
All About Jazz.com (John Barron)
Saxophonist Mark Taylor was announced Northwest Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2009 Earshot Jazz Awards. Such esteemed recognition may be due to his high profile supporting roles on Origin Records releases by Thomas Marriott and Matt Jorgensen + 451. For Spectre, his first recording as a leader in six years, the Seattle, Washington-based Taylor...
All Music Guide (Adam Greenberg)
Fresh off a regional "best instrumentalist" award, sax virtuoso Mark Taylor returned to bandleader efforts with 2009's Spectre, a romp through a fair set of originals. Most compositions here come directly from Taylor's pen, but there are a few additional items -- two contributions from pianist Gary Fukushima and one from bassist Jeff Johnson, and o...

On Spectre, his first solo re-lease in six years, Taylor shows why he’s an oft called upon saxophonist in the Seattle scene – performing and recording with Jim Knapp, Matt Jorgens...

On Spectre saxophonist Mark Taylor leads a quartet that plays straight ahead but with moody edge reminiscent of Wayne Shorter's Blue Note albums. There is spacious rhythm support on most pieces from Gary Fukushima, Jeff Johnson, and Byron Vannoy with Fukushima occasionally adding a layer of brooding electric piano. Taylor plays calm and lucid sop...
