Echoing Rosie Clooney's natural warmth and Nancy Wilson's impeccable phrasing, Matassa moves from triumph to triumph.
Jazz Times

Greta's latest recording for Origin features her longtime band and a collection of favorite songs pulled from compilation tapes she would make for long walks. From the recordings of singers such as Carmen McRae, Anita O'Day, Dakota Staton, Shirley Horn and Ruth Price, Greta selected many tunes that have been overlooked in recent years - Look at That Face, Listen Little Girl, There'll Be Another Spring, Michel LeGrand's I Will Wait for You and 9 others. Also featured are labelmates Richard Cole on saxophone and Thomas Marriott on trumpet.

Reviews of Favorites From A Long Walk

All Music Guide (Adam Greenburg)
A nice album of relatively unknown songs originally done by the great female vocalists of yesteryear. Matassa has a nice way with the music, alternately whispering softly and belting out cadences as the compositions require. Matassa doesn't quite mimic the classic singers, but she does have hints of their styles slyly embedded in her delivery. Ella ...

HOME SWEET HOMEBODY -- If Greta Matassa is not a jazz star outside of the Seattle area, it's only because Matassa hasn't performed much outside of the Seattle area. But the 43-year-old singer, who grew up on Bainbridge Island, absorbing the sound and soul of her father's jazz record collection, has been a highly regarded artist among our northe ...

Earshot (Todd Matthews)
When jazz vocalist Greta Matassa looks for inspiration, she hits the road -- not on travel adventures around the world, or lengthy concert tours that take her to various parts of the country (Matassa, in fact, rarely travels outside the Pacific Northwest to perform). Her formula is much simpler. She dons a pair of headphones, loads a portable CD pl ...

Jazz Scene (George Fendel)
If you missed the recent Vocal Madness gig at the Benson Hotel, here is your chance to get acquainted with Greta Matassa, a Seattle-based singer who wowed the crowd on that occasion. She gets to the heart of a song, expressing the lyric with great feeling, but never indulging in show-biz shtick. For this album, Metassa chooses 13 tunes, most of w ...

Jazz Review (Cindy McLeod)
Jazz vocalist Greta Matassa makes a big statement in an understated way with her latest release Favorites From a Long Walk, a sterling collection of songs performed masterfully by the singer and her quintet for this mainstream jazz CD. Matassa is a stylist who has serious chops, her voice is full-bodied and texturally stimulating. Her phrasi ...

Los Angeles Times (Don Heckman)
SEATTLE'S HIDDEN GEM If the vision of Seattle as grunge city and the spawning ground for acts such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana and the Foo Fighters suggests that the only form of music with a significant presence in the city is rock, think again. Sunday's performance by Seattle singer Greta Matassa in Beverly Hills at a fundraiser for the Rising Jazz ...
