RadioAction , “Hi-Fi”
Origin 82365

RadioAction is a musical collective of four musical explorers, each a composer, arranger and bandleader in his own right. They are alto saxophonist Alex Graham, pianist Whitney Ashe, bassist Gary Wang and drummer Matthew Jorgensen. A band for several years now, their depth, group virtuosity, humor and high spirits all but jump out of a set of speakers, whether the song being played is a burner or ballad, a band original or RadioAction's very fresh take on a jazz standard.

The group RadioAction is made up four young, modern jazz artists working out of the New York area, although recorded here by the West Coast label, Origin. These artists have something to say with their interpretation of the items on the play list, whether it be one of the original compositions or a jazz or classic standard. The tone of their conver...
Cadance Magazine ()
RadioAction is a skillful and apparently young quartet that's located solidly in the hard bop stream. Strong identity and emotional depth aren't qualties that come to mind in assessing this group, but they do play with conviction, a certain sense of the stylistic niceties, and an attentiveness to one another's nuances. The thoughfulness shows in th...
All About Jazz (John Barrett, Jr.)
The drums pound home, and it begins. The title is modern ("Explosion"), the sound is vintage: an early ‘Sixites groove you find on Blue Note. Alex Graham holds the alto, and gives it the high piercing sound from the old days (he doesn’t sound "like" anybody, but that tone is there.) He takes little phrases and spins them around, staying...
