Now in its 11th year, Origin Records was founded by Seattle drummer John Bishop, who, in partnership with his former drum student Matt Jorgensen, developed the label into one of the premier jazz organizations in the Northwest and one of the top independent labels in the country. Conceived as a springboard for creative Seattle jazz artists, the roster quickly evolved to include over 100 artists on 200 recordings from around the U.S., Europe and Japan. In recent years, Origin has expanded into concert and festival production with their annual Ballard Jazz Festival, partnered with the Gene Harris Jazz Festival for the yearly Origin Records/Gene Harris Jazz Competition, started a sister jazz label, OA2 Records, and in 2008, debuted Origin Classical Records. Along with their CDs, Origin teams with business and community groups, continually searching for opportunities to promote
their artists and enrich the artistic environment of the communities that
nurture them.
