“Sonando is a brilliant accomplishment that will easily captivate jazz fans and Latin music aficionados alike.”
Platter Chatter
Since 1990, Sonando has been exploring new directions in the blending of Afro-Cuban rhythms and Jazz in the clubs, festival stages and concert halls of the Northwest. Called "Seattle's shining star of Latin jazz" by New York City's Descarga Catalog, they continue, through their performances and recordings, to draw latin music and jazz fans together with their fluidly shifting rhythmic explorations, engaging compositions & arrangements, and soaring improvisations.
Besides their signature take on Latin jazz, Sonando's performances are balanced with traditional and modern interpretations of Afro-Cuban styles including Son, Changui, Bata & Rumba, performed on both modern jazz instruments and folkloric instruments such as bata, marimbula, tres, congas & shekere.
Formed by pianist/composer/arranger Fred Hoadley, Sonando features some of the Northwest's most dynamic performers including: Tom Bergersen (congas, bata & percussion), Chris Stromquist (drumset, timbales, bata & percussion), Ernesto Pediangco (bongos, timbales & percussion), Barney Brazitis (bass, bata & marimbula), and the horn section of Chris Stover (trombone), Jim Coile (woodwinds).
